To begin the initiative, GMADA Chief Administrator V P Singh, Fortis Hospital Executive Director Dr T S Mahant and Director Dr Ashish Banerji planted saplings while pledging to undertake various initiatives to help save the environment.
Mahant said, “While we safeguard the health of people by providing the best of healthcare, it is equally important for all of us to take care of the health of the environment. With the fast pace of development happening in and around Mohali, it is imperative that efforts are made to plant large number of trees.”
Singh said, “It is encouraging that the corporate world is so conscious of the environment and hope this trend grows in the years to come.”
Under the first phase of the initiative, GMADA will provide plants, which Fortis Hospital, with the help of the residents’ welfare associations and senior citizens’ associations, will plant in different parts of the city. These plants will be looked after and maintained by the gardeners of Fortis Hospital, which will also gift a plant to all its patients from Mohali to encourage them to plant trees in their surroundings.
Pollution check camp held
MOHALI: An NGO, Kalgidhar Sewak Jatha in association with Mohali traffic police organised a vehicle pollution check-up and awareness camp at a petrol station in Phase 3-A, Mohali, where a number of vehicles were checked for their pollution levels and drivers educated on various ways and means to keep the pollution level under control. President of the Ngo, J P Singh was also present on the occasion.
Brahmakumaris mark day too
Chandigarh“Plant at least one tree on every occasion, be it your birthday or your anniversary”, said Brahmakumari Kavita while talking on ‘Green the Earth, Clean the Mind’ on occasion of World Environment Day, held at Prajapita Brahmakumaris Ishwariya Vishva Vidyalya, Sector 47 on Friday.
Hundreds of people participated in the event and pledged to save the earth by planting more trees. Centre in-charge, Brahmakumari Poonam said nature is polluted because of man’s anger and greed.
On the occasion, she also distributed saplings among the residents. The chief guest was principal of Kendriya Vidyalya, Sector 47, C P Chaudhary. Actor Mehar Mittal also spoke on the occasion. Saplings were also planted in the park of Sector 47.
