Taking a serious note of the incident in which a few RPF constables and railway vendors allegedly gang-raped and killed an 11-year-old girl outside the Kanpur Central Station on Friday, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Shriprakash Jaiswal met the victim’s family on Sunday and assured them of a proper inquiry and adequate compensation. He also told the victim’s family that he would write a letter to Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in this regard.
Meanwhile, the Rail Bazar police has registered a case against eight persons, out of which four — including RPF constable Vinay Rai, contractor Amar Singh and vendors Pappu and Lambu — have been arrested. It has also sent two separate teams to Allahabad and Chhapra to arrest those who accompanied contractor Amar Singh at the time of incident.
Narrating their trauma, Sarita Keshari, mother of deceased girl, said that around six months back, her family, including husband Rajesh and six children, had shifted to Kanpur from Sasaram (Bihar) in search of work. “Rajesh started a foodstall at the railway station. Since then, fellow vendors and RPF men had been molesting my daughter and passing lewd remarks,” she alleged. She also said that RPF men had warned her of dire consequences and even threatened that her husband will be behind bars if she resisted to their demands.
Meanwhile, assuring strict action against its personnel, RPF station in-charge Satyendra Yadav said that Rajesh was earlier caught for allegedly using sub-standard items for preparing the eatables. He was also arrested and sent to Naini jail on February 4 on charges of pick-pocketing.
