
Four persons have died in separate road accidents in the last 24 hours. In the first accident, an eight-year-old boy died after he was hit by a speeding Mahindra pickup around 9 am on Wednesday. Gagandeep, who lived in Colony Number 5, received severe head injuries and died on the spot.
The vehicle was coming from Industrial Area, Phase I and heading towards the Poultry Farm Chowk, an eyewitness said. Soon after the accident, people gathered on the spot, causing a traffic jam.
Gagandeep’s father Vijay Partap Singh is a labourer.
A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered against the unknown driver.
In another accident that took place on Tuesday, a resident of Sector 16 died after a truck hit his motorcycle near the Sukhna traffic signal. Hans Raj was rushed to the GMCH- 32, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Raj was in his mid-thirties and was a junk dealer. An eyewitness noted down the registration number of the truck and gave it to the police. A case has been registered and investigations are on.
In the third accident, a man in his sixties was killed after he was hit by a car near the Housing Board traffic signal on Tuesday afternoon. Kharaiti Lal, a resident of Burail, was crossing the road when the accident took place. He was rushed to the PGI, where he succumbed to his injuries.
A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving under Section 304 A has been registered in the Manimajra police station.
