Constable accused of entering temple with shoes on, drunk
Chandigarh: A police constable allegedly entered a temple at Sector 32 with his shoes on and drunk late on Tuesday night. The devotees in the temple alleged that the official abused the devotees praying in the temple. A call was received by the police at 11 pm complaining that the devotees in the temple had installed a sound system which was very loud. Following this, a PCR reached the spot and asked them to lower the volume of the system. However, the devotees retaliated and made another complaint that a police official had entered drunk in the temple and was creating trouble.
Signature campaign against Delhi gangrape organised
Chandigarh: Students of Panjab University on Wednesday held a signature campaign at the Sector 17 plaza in wake of the incident of gangrape in Delhi. The campaign started around noon. Girls and boys from the hostels lined up in the plaza with a 60-meter long white cloth which was signed by many persons in the plaza. One of the organizers of the campaign, Amandeep Singh, said, "We will be sending this to the Prime Minister of India just for them to see that the nation is united and we want justice for the culprits".
SGPC holds turban tying contest
Mohali: The Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), Amritsar, organized a turban tying competition at Golden Bells Public School, Sector – 77, Mohali in which students of classes VII to XII participated. There were 14 students who participated in the competition out of which Jagdeep Singh, Ravi Inder Singh and Amritpal Singh were selected for the district level competition.
PU to hold NSS camp
Chandigarh: The Panjab University campus unit of the National Service Scheme (NSS) is organising a week-long camp from January 2, 2013 to January 8, 2013. The theme of the camp is 'Youth for Sustainable Development' . The students have been asked to report at the Zoology Auditorium of PU on January 2, 2013 at 9.30 am. The village adopted for this camp is Jayanti Majri.
