Four new H1N1 virus deaths were reported in Maharashtra one each in Mumbai and Jalna and two in Pune on Sunday. Gujarat,too,reported its sixth flu death in Bharuch while one person died of suspected swine flu in Haryanas Kurukshetra.
A 21-year-old pregnant woman,a resident of Thane district in Mumbai,died of swine flu at Kasturba Hospital,taking the death count to eight in the metropolis.
Pushpa Choudhary,who was seven months pregnant,was admitted to the hospital on August 21 and was kept on ventilator,health officials said.
Anil Sheshrao Chavan,26,died of swine flu at the Mission Hospital in Jalna in Maharashtras Marathwada region,Health Officer B L Survase said.
In Pune,two-and-a-half-year-old Tai Arun Bagal and 42-year-old Kamal Wagale succumbed to swine flu on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Tai was a resident of Nashik and had liver problems. She was shifted to Kamal Hospital in Wanavdi on Friday after she showed symptoms of swine flu. She was put on ventilator on Friday and died on Saturday.
Wagale,a resident of Balajinagar,was admitted to Bharati Hospital on Saturday night when her throat swab was sent for tests. She tested positive for swine flu on Sunday morning and died in the afternoon, said Dr Ashok Laddha,the nodal officer appointed by the state government.
Laddha added that 16 persons tested positive for swine flu on Sunday. A total of 7,827 persons were screened,of which 472 were given Tamiflu doses
Hashmukh Hingu,a 47-year-old tailor from Bharuch in Gujarat,died at the Sir Sayajirao General Hospital (SSGH) a day after he was tested positive for the H1N1 virus. Hingus condition was critical when he was brought here and he was kept on ventilator. He died of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and bilateral pneumonia, said Pravina Thakkar,Resident Medical Officer of the hospital.
Health officials in Bharuch have,meanwhile,given prophylactic treatment to over 90 people who had come in contact with Hingu. We are carrying out medical surveys in the area for the last two days. We are also conducting check-ups in schools and other public places, said Dr B Vegda,Chief District Health Officer,Bharuch.
A 48-year-old resident of Delhi was admitted to RML Hospital two days ago with renal failure,fever and breathlessness,according to Hospital Medical Superintendent N K Chaturvedi. He died on Saturday following acute respiratory distress syndrome and pneumonia,Chaturvedi said,adding that his swab test report was awaited.
