Four sentenced to life in CBSE question paper leak

The convicted include a school principal,a circle inspector and a forest ranger.

Emphasising on protecting the interests of students,a special Port Blair court on Wednesday,in a landmark verdict, sentenced four persons, including a school principal,a circle inspector and a forest ranger,to life imprisonment for leaking CBSE question paper in February-March this year.

Special Judge Debi Prasad Dey held the four accused guilty under Section 409 (criminal breach of trust),which entails life term as the maximum punishment, besides under other charges pertaining to the Prevention of Corruption Act and criminal conspiracy.

Wrapping up the trial in less than eight months, the judge held that it was high time that an exemplary punishment must be handed out to the convicts, who had no respect for the sanctity of the education system and the examination and had in fact acted on the malicious design only for pecuniary gains.

Those held guilty are Krishnamaraju, principal of Government Senior Secondary School at Lapati; Abdul Rasheed,an executive engineer of the Andamans PWD; M J Vijayan,a forest ranger; and Abdul Salam,a circle inspector. The fifth accused in the case,M P Arun,a radio operator with the local police, was however acquitted for want of evidence, according to an official release from the Andaman and Nicobar Island Police.
