  • Way back in 2005, the M S University Syndicate had passed a proposal along with seed money for initiating work on a Unique Identity Code System project, which would have made work paper-less to a great extent. Even a well-coordinated committee was formed to work on this project, but till date nothing has happened at the ground level.

The present administration of MSU and Deputy Registrar Dharmendra Mistry are mum about the issue.

The five-member committee had suggested the university to ask First-Year students to fill up forms with details including name, sex, category, date of admission, name of the course, date of enrolment, date of the issue of identity card, date of data entry and signature of the issuing authority, based on an alpha-numeric system.

The aim was to reduce unnecessary drudgery in the MSU examination section. Even two scanners to proofread the entire information filled in the forms (in the form of specified alpha-numeric codes) were purchased in 2005.

Prof S Ganpathi was the chairman of the committee. Other members were Prof Mayank Dholakia from the Faculty of Management, Prof Nikhil Desai from Faculty of Science, P M Shah from Faculty of Commerce and Prof Bhuvan Parekh from Faculty of Technology. There were also members from the Computer Centre.

When inquired about the issue, Prof Ganpathi said: “The idea of the Unique Identity Code System was to have uniform data of the student throughout his/her academic session, with minimal paperwork. There are some details which remain uniform throughout a student’s academic career. The Computer Centre was only supposed to update the internal, practical and final results in this system.”

    ... contd.
