With the fourth cut-off list to be released on Thursday, many general category students’ dreams of entering DU will be crushed with most colleges closing admissions in popular courses. Only out-campus colleges still have seats in the category. OBC seats in many courses, however, remain empty with very few students turning up for admissions despite lowered cut-offs with each list.
In Hindu College, seats in Hindi, History, Political Science and B.Com (Hons) are still vacant. Acting Principal S Chowdhary said he will try his best to fill the seats, as the admissions for OBC will remain open till August 15. “Students are just not turning up,” he said.
At Daulat Ram College too, not many OBC students have turned up. Ira Pundit, PRO said: “In English department, there are still 11 seats vacant.” The college is contemplating lowering the cut-offs by 10 per cent, but fears that too many students will then turn up for admissions.
In Lady Shri Ram College for Women only 20 seats have been filled of more than 100 reserved seats, while at Swami Shraddhanand College, just about 25 out of almost 200 seats are filled. Despite fewer students turning up, however, colleges like DRC, Hindu and Hansraj have actually done better than last year. In the fourth cut-off list Hansraj College has only 25 seats left in the OBC category.
Unlike previous years, if OBC students don’t turn up for admissions this year, the seats will be converted to general category students, the university has decided. The conversion will take place after August 17.
