Seeking compensation for the extra expenses borne by them because of shifting the IPL’s second season to South Africa, the tournament’s eight franchises are set to present a detailed list to the Indian Premier League authorities on Monday.
The IPL had assured the franchise owners that it would protect their financial interests when the decision to organise the event outside India was taken. The IPL governing council is expected to study the claims and ratify them in its meeting on September 2.
“We’ve been asked to put forward a list for the extra expenses incurred by us in South Africa. We were assured of this when the tournament was moved to South Africa,” a franchisee official told The Indian Express. Initial estimates peg the amount to be roughly around Rs 10-12 crore for each team, sources said.
In the meeting, the governing council is also expected to ratify disbursements of around Rs 8 crore for each of its member associations from the revenue of Rs 280 crore generated from Season 2 in South Africa.
