Jaya Namdeo Daronde doesn't conform to conventions when she paints a woman and her world. Freedom comes in a variety of colours, moods and perspectives to the young painter, who studied art at Nagpur and now teaches at Kurukshetra University. As part of her new show, Daronde exhibits her series of works which show a woman and her intricate mind, the influence of society, her journey, love and relationships. "Essentially, the theme and thought of my work is a woman and her relationships. How she is viewed by society and the outside world really engrosses me,'' reflects the painter.

In Daronde's works, the woman's beauty is accentuated with bubbles and flowers, which are an integral part of the painter's work. "Beauty does not translate into a fair complexion. My woman has an Indian skin tone and has inner beauty,'' says Daronde, who uses vibrant backgrounds and a variety of bright colours for her works. The relationship between a man and woman, its various stages, the idea of respect and affection comes alive in her paintings. "Love goes beyond the physical plane, it's also about acceptance, care and an acknowledgement of identity,'' says Daronde, who adds that while the central point of her work is a woman, Daronde creates society through different faces, mostly men.

Tattoos as elements also figure in Daronde's works, and are translated on to her canvas. "It's very interesting to note how young girls from smaller towns and rural areas adjust in bigger cities. For some, it's a painful process, as society does play its part to pull them back. These are observations I like to capture on canvas,'' she says.

Also on display is Daronde's new series on Ganeshas. Using ornate Indian motifs and bright colours, the painter depicts Ganesha in various moods, "the more decorative a Ganesha is, the better He is,'' says Daronde, as she points to the intricately done crowns of the Ganesha.
