Nearly six months after the unprecedented security breach at the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), the Delhi Police today filed supplementary chargesheet against former R&AW director (computers) Brigadier Ujjwal Dasgupta. The police had on 8 September chargesheeted Shib Shanker Paul and Mukesh Saini for allegedly passing information to US spy Rosanna Minchew, working as second secretary in US Embassy.
The police in the chargesheet filed before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Seema Maini said Dasgupta was part of a spy ring active in India and was involved in the conspiracy. One of the important projects of Indian security project ‘Anveshak’ was passed on to Minchew and the copy of the same was recovered from Dasgupta’s house and laptop.
The police have recovered four pendrives, which include three from a well in Nehru Park and one from his house, along with three hard disks from office and one from his personal computer. According to police, all sensitive informations contained in these were passed to Minchew.
The directory of R&AW, which contains the names and designation R&AW officers, was also passed on to Minchew. According to police, Dasgupta also went to the US in April this year with Minchew where he stayed for almost a month. Minchew promised her US citizenship for helping her.
In the 30-page chagesheet, the telephone records between Dasgupta and Minchew suggest that the two were in regular contact with each other, mostly for non-official purposes. It says Minchew promised a promotion for Dasgupta’s US-based son, who is working for an MNC.
