From April 1, get railway tickets booked at your post office

  • Come April 1 and the city residents can get their railway tickets booked from Head Post Office near Bharat Nagar Chowk. For this purpose, the Postal department has relieved five employees who will undergo one-month training from February 24.

    According to V K Raizada, Senior Suprintendent Post Offices, Ludhiana, “We will open railway reservation counter from April 1 at the Head Post Office near Bharat Nagar Chowk. For this purpose, the Railways will install its own computers at the post office. Three women and two men from the Postal department will undergo training. The service will begin at the head post office and will soon be launched in Miller Ganj, Model Town and Central Post Office.” He added that the Department of Post will get 1 per cent to 2 per cent commission for the service. “This means that if one books tickets at the post office, the amount charged will be 2 per cent more as compared to the booking counters of railway station.”

    Raju Verma, a frequent traveller said, “This would save me from standing in long queues.”

    When asked about the working hours of the railway booking centres at the post office, Raizada said, “It is yet to be finalised. But most probably it would be from 8 am to 8pm.”
