From today,log on and pay traffic violation fines

The Chandigarh Traffic Police has launched the facility of online payment of the compounding fee for traffic violations.

From Tuesday,a traffic violator shall be able to pay the compounding fee for the violation,online through the Chandigarh Traffic Police website. Though online payment of fines was mentioned in the challans issued,the facility was non-functional till now. Link has been provided on the traffic police website—chandigarhtrafficpolice.org—and by clicking on it,one can follow the instructions and pay the fine. Once the compounding fee is paid,the seized documents of the violator shall reach his place of residence through courier.

The violator will have to fill a small online form for first registering with the website. After registering,one can log in using the registered username and password and select the option ‘Traffic Challan Payment’.

A person will then have to select the type of challan for which payment has to be made and enter the challan number and the book number mentioned on the challan slip and enter his account details to complete the financial transaction.

Presently,a person can pay the compounding fee for violation at the Chandigarh Traffic Police Lines in Sector 29. A person can also pay the compounding fee for a Traffic Violation Information Slip (TVIS) issued to him at the e-Sampark centres located across various sectors in the city.

The violators having residence outside Chandigarh are given an option of “on-the-spot” payment of compounding fee for the traffic violation committed by them.

“The facility of paying fines,online,for traffic violations will start from Tuesday. One can just log on to our website and select the type of challans for which they need to make the payment. The fines for different violations will be available on the website,” DSP (Traffic) Vijay Kumar said.

The police will also be soon starting a facility for payment of compounding fee for the traffic violations at various banks,across the city,where a violator can go and deposit the fine.
