Claiming that India could face fuel supply blockade as experienced in the case of the Tarapur nuclear power plant, the CPI (M) asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to walk out of the Indo-US nuclear deal claiming it had almost the same conventionalities.

Maintaining the 123 Agreement as being "almost identical" to Tarapur accord where India was "forced to run from pillar to post for fuel after the US unilaterally terminated the Tarapur 123 Agreement," the CPI(M) Politburo said India was now seeking fuel supply assurances and other terms, including the right to reprocess spent fuel, based only on this experience.

But the documents accompanying the US Presidential Determination have made the American "intentions" clear -- this 123 Agreement is no different from the earlier Tarapur one, with all the Tarapur problems.

"And India can again land into the Tarapur mess, as the right of the US to terminate the agreement is an unfettered one," the Politburo said in a statement in New Delhi.

Maintaining that a "different interpretation" of the 123 Agreement by India would "in no way bind the US as a supplier", it demanded that the Prime Minister "fulfil his pledge to the nation that he will walk away from the nuclear deal if it does not meet India's expectations".

Asserting that all points raised by the Left parties have been confirmed by the documents accompanying the US Presidential Determination, it said these have "exposed the hollowness of the claims made by the Prime Minister in Parliament."

The CPI (M) Politburo claimed that the Presidential documents submitted to the US Congress have made it amply clear that the terms of the 123 agreement are fully in conformity with the Hyde Act and "violate" the crucial commitments made by the Prime Minister in Parliament.

What a shameBy: Nasiur | 18-Sep-2008 Reply | Forward Its no point thinking of making a house when there is no building nmaterial. I can't belive it how could India do this supid mistake, why did she built the N.reactor when she did'nt even have the fuel to burn it, before making the reactor she should have made the fuel first. Is there not enough sharp minds in India to develop the fuel, then its a shame that we think that we are a 2nd world country.

Communists dilemmaBy: Jamsheed Basha | 18-Sep-2008 Reply | Forward Prakash Karat is a sick man obsessed with Communists China and Russia. He has no love for western countries. He is trying hard to derail the Nuke deal but failed. Now he and his party is indulging in hair splitting argument trying to find fault with the deal. They are not doing out of love for this country but to take political mileage out of the misery of the UPA Govt. The Govt is already facing the wrath of the people for its failed policy of price front and also terrorism. But the Nuke deal would bolster their image at home and abroad. BJP and communists are trying hard to find any other issue that would help them garner enough votes. But they are running short of it. BJP and the Safron brigade now unleashed a reign of terror against the minority Christian community in Orissa, Karnataka, and Kerala. This would not help them to get votes in next outings. But they are sure to get the reversal verdict. UPA is firmly in the saddle and buoyant over its rare diplomatic success in getting the NSG clearance and the signing of the 123 Agreement is round the corner. All right thinking people in India must unite and fight against the divisive forces out to disturb the unity of this country for their political gains. Teach them a lesson in the next outings.
Left/Right/centerBy: govi | 18-Sep-2008 Reply | Forward Can we let our country progress? You stupid communists politicians. You are hypocritesI am sure you are enjoying the luxuries of the world and raking in black money and disguised as leftists or whatever garbage you call yourself. The politicians should stop this drama because the janta doesn't care what PM or AM says or what the lalus or lungis/dhotis say. Or your highless Sonia's verdict is. Fight Terrorism and then stomp out. You bloody idiots you fight at the drop of a hat. Do you have basic sense towards your country. These ugly devils are massacring our people, their parents are defending them and the mullahs are out to rescue them from the central government. They are in celebration mood hosting parties for politicians because they have killed innocent people and now the dirty bearded fellows are happy. The burqawallis cannot see what their children are up to oops they cannot see because they are forbidden and low to correct a male. What shameless people live on this plane
Fulfil your pledge on N-dealBy: G Krishnamurthy | 18-Sep-2008 Reply | Forward It is amazing that the Left, which has treated the Indian Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, so shabbily, should again start advising the Prime Minister on what his action should be. Perhaps, it is time that they looked to some other area for pontificating - Singur, the rapid industrial decline in West Bengal, honoring their commitments to industrialists and farmers and so on.
Reds blind to saffron fireBy: Eric Pinto | 18-Sep-2008 Reply | Forward In its obsession with the nuclear debateand its marginalisation the Left has forgotten its stake in a secular India. No comments on the Orissa and Karnataka violence ? Well comrades, you are showing your true colours. red is a few shades darker than saffron !
