    — Suresh Kalmadi, MP

    Chairman

    OC, CWG 2010,

    Dehi

Sports Minister M.S. Gill (‘Gill on a mission...’, IE, October 25) is expected to attend the Queen’s Baton Relay in London where he may try to address the Hooper-Kalmadi controversy. As an octogenarian citizen of India and a sports lover, I fully endorse Kalmadi’s brave stand, along with millions of Indians who do not want to compromise national dignity and pride. Nearly a month ago Gill publicly expressed doubts about our preparation to host the international meet without looking at actual ground realities or consulting the Delhi chief minister. Kalmadi, an elected member of the Lok Sabha dedicated to sports management in India, should not succumb to pressure. Let Mike Hooper amend his view and earlier statement.

    Shake-up required

This refers to ‘BJP targets PM on spectrum’ (IE, October 27). The BJP is justified in its objections as the scam is currently undergoing a probe by the CBI. Further there have been allegations that the CBI has worked under the influence of political rulers. The CBI should be given real autonomy for the selection of its chief through consensus between the PM and the Opposition. One can see such a system working well for posts such as the head of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the Central Information Commission (CIC).

    ... contd.
