G S Bhargava,a former Resident Editor of The Indian Express,Hyderabad,and a senior member of the Editors Guild of India on Tuesday breathed his last at his New Friends Colony home in the Capital.
At the time of his demise,he was suffering from throat cancer.
Bhargava,85,was an active member of the Guild and took an active interest in issues of press freedom and standards of journalism. According to Guild members,Blue Pencil,his column on media reporting,was regarded by journalists with a mixture of eagerness and trepidation,as he was fair but strict on journalistic standards.
Before joining The Indian Express,Bhargava,who spent 40 years of his life in journalism,also worked with The Hindustan Times and The Tribune.
He also reported from Pakistan for The Hindustan Times during 1961-62. He had also worked as a foreign correspondent in three South Asian countries and was the author of biographies and books on contemporary events.
His other accomplishments include working as the Principal Information Officer of the Government of India in late 1970s.
His wife Lily Bhargava survives him.
