Gadkari slams Centre for ‘targeting’ state cops

BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Monday attacked the Centre for ordering CBI probe against "honest" police officers in Gujarat while ignoring Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh even as, he said, more encounters had taken place in those states.

Addressing his first public rally here after corruption allegations were levelled against him, Gadkari said 25 incidents of encounter killings had taken place in Gujarat while Maharashtra had reported 75 and UP 225 such incidents.

"In Maharashtra, many police encounters have taken place. But, the union government has not ordered a probe, because Congress is in power in Maharashtra. However, when terrorists are gunned down in Gujarat, CBI investigation is ordered against honest police officers," he added.

Urging people to vote for BJP and ensure the victory of "development politics" in the Assembly elections, he said, "The development of Gujarat is famous world over. People should vote for BJP and ensure development politics wins. BJP has cared for all the sections of society. Under the BJP regime, Gujarat has achieved huge agricultural development."

"In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, we will project development of Gujarat and achievements of Narendra Modi as role model. The Gujarat model is just a trailer. When we will come to power (at the Centre), the film will start," he said.
