GADVASU faculty member passes away

Prominent Veterinary Gynaecologist and a faculty of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU),Dr Jagir Singh passed away on Saturday following a massive heart attack.

Prominent Veterinary Gynaecologist and a faculty of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU),Dr Jagir Singh passed away on Saturday following a massive heart attack. He was 48. Singh was considered one of the sharpest Gynaecologists among the country’s Veterinary fraternity. He received his Master and Doctorate degree from PAU,Ludhiana before being honoured with a Post-Doctoral Commonwealth fellowship at the University of Liverpool in the UK. In a teaching career spanning 21 years,Singh’s contribution to the fields of infertility,and artificial breeding in cattle and buffalo was immense. Having published about 250 papers,including 80 research papers and 2 books,Singh had more than 12 awards to his credit and had participated in nine international and 20 national scientific conferences. A day before his demise he had returned from Aizawl,Mizoram after attending a National Symposium where he was bestowed with the prestigious ‘Nils Lagerlof Memorial Award-2010’ and the ‘Dr NC Sharma Memorial Award-2011’. He also received the ‘Best Presentation Award-2011’ at the Aizawl conference. Having travelled widely,Singh was an avid sportsman with a special interest in badminton. His colleagues in GADVASU and PAU extended their condolences to the bereaved family.
