Gang involved in over 100 vehicle thefts busted, 5 held

The Gurgaon police Crime Branch on Tuesday said it has arrested the kingpins of a gang of auto lifters, involved in theft of over 100 vehicles from different parts of Haryana.

Police said they would sell these vehicles all over the country.

Acting on a tip-off, a Crime Branch team raided the gang's hideout in Silani village on the Palwal-Sohna road late on Monday night.

Five persons were arrested from the hideout, where they were allegedly making plans to steal more vehicles.

According to police, the accused have been identified as Umaruddin (resident of Shekhpur in Ferozpur Jhirka), Jubddin (resident of Sabalgarh in Bharatpur, Rajasthan), Jahul (resident of Bharatpur), Kutubuddin (resident of Mohlaka in Mewat) and Taufiq (resident of Bharatpur).

Police said Umaruddin was involved in many cases of vehicle theft and has also has been sent to jail many times.

Umaruddin had been declared a proclaimed offender and police said he would sell stolen tractors, cars and motorcycles across the country.

Jahul is also a history sheeter and during questioning, he told police that he had stolen many vehicles in Gurgaon.

Kutubuddin had stolen a truck last week near Bhanu Hotel in Tavru, police said.

Police said Taufiq admitted that the five were making plans to steal more vehicles and Umaruddin fired at Sub-Inspector Sunil Kumar.

Police have recovered a Maruti Swift, a .315 pistol, iron rods and the torch used to stop vehicles before theft.

The gang members told police that they had stolen around 40 tractors and 50 motorcycles in Gurgaon.

Police said they hoped to recover more stolen vehicles.

The gang, which police believe had more than 20 members, used to sell the looted vehicles in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana and Jharkhand.

Some of the vehicles were even sold in Nepal.
