Gang involved in over 50 offences busted,4 held

The Anti-Robbery Squad of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested Roy Edward Sequeira,32,from Kurla,who is allegedly the leader of a gang involved in over 50 serious offences such as armed robberies

The Anti-Robbery Squad of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested Roy Edward Sequeira,32,from Kurla,who is allegedly the leader of a gang involved in over 50 serious offences such as armed robberies,murders,kidnapping and vehicle thefts in and around the city. In some cases,the accused posed as policemen.

Sequiera,a resident of Vasai,was arrested along with three associates identified as Anuj Gangaram Chaugule,22,residing in Mahalaxmi,Mohammed Mehboob Sheikh,27,from Vasai,and Deepal Tersu Singh,26,from Nalasopara.

“The Anti-Robbery Squad received a tip-off that Sequeira and his gang would be meeting at Kurla on Wednesday evening to rob a jewellery store. A trap was laid accordingly on Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg in Kurla and the four accused were arrested,” said a crime branch officer,who did not wish to be named.

The police have seized a country-made revolver,live rounds,two knives,adhesive tape,and a nylon rope along with a Honda City and Bajaj Avenger bike they had come in. The police have also recovered a photograph of Sequiera in a police uniform sporting the name Vijay Ganesh Pawar and a bogus police ID card,as well as a fake driving licence from Chaugule under the name Mahendra Singh Poonam Singh. Sequiera and Chaugule have over 50 cases registed against them. On being released from jail in March this year,they regrouped and carried out several offences in the city.
