Four persons, including a woman, were arrested on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in a series of carjacking cases, the police said.
The woman, 31-year-old Anjali (name changed), Ravi Malik (26), Pankaj Arora (22) and Sushank (18) were arrested from near Hauz Khas, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said. Four vehicles were recovered from their possession.
The police said the woman, the leader of the gang used to stand on lonely roads at night pretending to be stranded and asked passersby for lifts.
“Anjali would stand on a lonely road (mostly Mehrauli-Gurgaon road). She would ask for a lift and once a driver took her in, she would offer him sexual favours. She would then take the driver to a pre-decided lonely spot. By the time, the other gang members would arrive, and pretending to be the police, beat both of them up. They would then, on the pretext of taking the woman to the police station, flee with the car,” Dhaliwal said.
Police sources said after a tip-off, the gang members were arrested near Deer Park in a Ford Fiesta that was robbed in the same way on August 24 at Andheria More in Mehrauli area.
The police said the gang was involved in at least 10 such cases of car thefts.
Malik, a resident of Masoodpur in Vasant Kunj, was earlier a property dealer whose business was badly hit by the meltdown. He allegedly had relations with several call girls and came in contact with Anjali, who worked as a call girl.
