Ludhiana police achieved a major success on Saturday when they busted a gang involved in many highway robberies. Yurinder Singh,DCP,said,the gang includes an authorised dealer of Tata Motors,a transporter and a known vehicle lifter who,along with other gang members,were active in Punjab and Delhi. In all,10 persons have been arrested and eight trucks with a market value of around Rs 1.25 crore have been recovered. Those named in the FIR include Gurdip,owner of the well-known Balwant Sales Corporation that deals in vehicles manufactured by Tata Motors,HL Takku,manager of the company,Jagjit Khan alias DC Gill,who belongs to an influential family based in Malerkotla,Gurpreet Singh of Lakhowal,Baljeet Singh,Buta Singh,Jagjit Singh,Jagdeep Singh,Ruby,Rajan Singh,Raman Bholla,Narinder Panday,Ramandeep Singh,Gurcharan Singh,Ranjit Singh,Arunpal and Ramnath. As per the police,The accused used to sell the stolen and snatched vehicles from the premises of Balwant Sales Limited. The lifting and snatching was mainly done by what is known as the DC gang,operated by a known transporter Jagjit Khan alias DC Gill. The gang members used to snatch and loot vehicles,mostly big trucks plying on the GT Road in Punjab. The accused,sometimes posed as district transport officers to stop vehicles and for this they had purchased a brand new Bolero vehicle with a blue beacon, said DCP Yurinder Singh. Police said,after the vehicles reached Balwant Sales Company,the owner Gurdip Singh along with his manager Takku replaced the original engine and chassis numbers with new ones. The vehicle was then shifted to a place where a new body would be fitted and the all-new truck was sold off from the premises of Tata Motors. DCP Yurinder Singh said So far,we have found eight trucks,a Bolero vehicle,a pistol and special tools to erase and place new engine numbers. With this recovery we have solved nearly six FIRs. The owner and the general manager of Balwant Sales Corporation,however,are still absconding.
