Five days after the two Scheduled Tribe girls were allegedly abducted and gangraped by six youths at Itawa Kala village in the trans-Yamuna area of Allahabad, the police lodged an FIR on Monday evening.
The police swung into action only after the office of Deputy Inspector General of Police instructed the station officer of the Mahila Police Station to lodge the FIR. The police on Tuesday arrested four of the accused and also sent the girls for a medical check-up.
The girls — aged 13 and 14 — were working in the field when four youths allegedly abducted them and took them to a nearby forest where more two of their friends were present. The six youths then allegedly gangraped the girls for hours. When the girls didn’t return home, the villagers started searching for them. They found them in an unconscious state in the forest.
“We took them to the hospital for treatment. The girls narrated the incident and named the six youths involved in the gang rape. Then we went to Khiri police station but the station officer did not listen to us and refused to lodge the complaint. Finally, we met DIG Chandra Prakash on Monday and on his order the complaint was lodged with the Mahila police station,” said Arun Adiwasi, a villager who accompanied the victims.
“Soon, two other accused would also be put behind the bars,” said the DIG.
