The controversial gangrape of a Dalit girl here has taken another turn, with the victim accusing the chairperson of the State Commission for Women Raj Rawat of threatening her.
A senior functionary of the BJP Pramod Kumar Gupta has been arrested for the rape along with the girl’s paternal cousin. Three other accused are still at large.
The victim told The Indian Express that Raj Rawat came to the NGO where she has been staying since the case was registered. “Raj asked me several irrelevant questions and threatened me when she was alone with me. She said that I lied about the rape and that my cousin could not have been involved. She wanted to take me to Nari Niketan and created a scene when I refused to go,” the victim said, adding that she said that she has lodged a complaint with the police regarding the incident.
However, when Raj Rawat was contacted she said, “I went there to help her. Her allegations are false and baseless. She levelled these allegations at the behest of people having vested interests. She will harm herself.” Rawat claimed that she had not met the victim in private.
“I am going to fight till I get justice,” the victim said.
