Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) delegate Harpal Singh Bhatia today served an ultimatum upon the state government to act against those who are involved in the multi-crore scandal in the solid waste management project. Addressing mediapersons here,he said that despite the inquiries indicting the Amritsar Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials and functionaries,no action had been initiated against the erring staff members. Bhatia said he would sit in dharna in front of Mayor Shawet Maliks residence and office and in front of the Municipal Corporation Commissioner DPS Kharbanda who had been found involved in causing financial losses to the civic body by hurriedly initiating the project without applying the mind. There is corruption and administrative lapses surfaced in the execution of the project. The government must act against the officials involved or I will sit on dharna,Bhatia said,adding that he will have to knock the doors of the court also as the government was protecting the officials having political patronage. As reported in The Indian Express on Friday,the irregularities had surfaced during the inquiries into the project but the government had initiated no action against the officials involved.
