Trinamool Congress workers on Saturday protested and gehraoed the CID officers and their vehicle at the Alipore court premises, when the team brought arrested Trinamool councillor and borough chairman Mohammad Iqbal to be produced in court. A local court in Gaya, Bihar, had on Friday allowed the CID to take him to Kolkata on transit remand.

Iqbal alias Munna is the prime accused in the incident of special branch officer of Kolkata Police, Tapash Choudhury being shot dead in the Garden Reach area. The court remanded Iqbal in police custody till March 20.

At 3.30 pm, about 2,000 Trinamool workers, who are reportedly supporters of Munna, gathered at the Alipore court premises. The mob, led by Munna's daughter Sabba, blocked the road and gheraoed the CID vehicle. The Rapid Action Force had to be called in to bring the situation under control. The mob shouted slogans like "Munna is innocent" and "he has been trapped by some of the senior Trinamool leaders".

Munna, in his statement on Friday, had told mediapersons that he was directed to go in hiding by some 'senior Trinamool leaders'.

Sabba told mediapersons that her father was called by local Trinamool councillor Ranjit Shil on the day of the incident. "My father was present at the spot. However, he went there only after he was called by the local councillor, Ranjit Shil. He told my father that Mukhtar, a Congress strongman and his men would capture the college and would not allow the nomination process to go on. As the borough chairman of the area, my father went to the spot. He has no involvement in the murder case. He was trapped and it is a conspiracy against him by the opposition party."

Shil has denied Sabba's claims. "I did not call anybody to the college. And I do not care who is saying what about me. I have given a report to my senior leaders. I am not answerable to anybody else," said Shil.
