A fire broke out in a shop on Nai Sarak in the Chandni Chowk area on Tuesday. No casualty was reported.
The police said the blaze started around 10 am and it took fire tenders about two-and-a-half hours to control it. At least 21 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, Fire department officials said. The police said the fire broke out in a three-storey shop,Arun Vastra Bhandar,and it is believed that it started on the ground floor. But it spread to the first floor before it could be controlled.
The ground floor was a showroom and the first floor served as an office. The owner had made a godown on the third floor. The exact reason for the fire is still not known and the police suspect that a short circuit is to be blamed.
The police said clothe and other property worth lakhs of rupees was gutted in the fire.
