Garvit Batra handed a crushing 6-0 6-0 defeat to eighth seed BR Nikshep to move to the quarter-finals of the boys under-16 of the National Tennis Championship along with second seed Vishu B Prasad and fourth seed Fatehdeep Singh.
Nikshep is third big casualty of the tournament so far as top seed IB Akshay and third seed Sachin Kumar have already been knocked out. Vishu had an easy outing against Vikrant Dahiya, scoring a 6-2 6-1 win while Punjab boy Fatehdeep edged past Paramveer Singh Bajwa 6-4 7-5.
In the other boys under-16 matches of the day, Prajwal Dev blanked Aryan Goves 6-0 6-0 while Udayan Bhakar rallied to go past Alex Solanki 3-6 6-3 6-3. M Sai Nikhil, Shashank Nautiyal and Bijay Gyan Bhaskar completed the quarter-final line-up in the category. In the girls under-16, top seed S Snehadevi looked in trouble after she lost the opening set but then got things under control to make it to the quarter-finals with a 2-6 6-4 6-1 win over Sai Avanthika.
