  • Bhupinder Kumar, an LPG consumer, has alleged contaminated water in the domestic cylinder delivered at his residence. The consumer has also alleged non-cooperative attitude of the staff of gas agency. The gas agency owner however has denied the allegations.

Bhupinder Singh, who lives in Sector-B of Agar Nagar, said, “About three months ago, an LPG cylinder from Cookwell Gas Service was delivered at my residence. A few weeks ago, when we started this cylinder, we found water oozing out of the gas stove pipe and burners. Following this, I complained in writing to the gas agency but the staff did not accept it. The staff on duty also refused to divulge the contact number of the gas agency owner, Dr V N Sood. The agency employees asked me about about my problem verbally but did not accept my written complaint. Meanwhile, I contacted Munish Gupta, district LPG coordinator, and told him that the staff of Cookwell Gas Service were not accepting my written complaint. But he also did not take any notice of it.”

The consumer further said as the gas agency had not accepted his written complaint, he told them he would not allow anyone to check his cylinder on verbal complaint.

Bhupinder Kumar said, “Now I have forwarded my complaint to Indian Oil Company, Chandigarh, as well as to Minister of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Government of Punjab, Chandigarh.”

However denying the allegations levelled by the consumer about non-cooperation, Dr V N Sood, owner of Cookwell Gas Service, said, “Bhupinder Kumar complained to us around 5 p.m. when the office was going to be closed. Still I sent a delivery boy to his home at 6:30 pm to check his cylinder. The delivery boy after checking informed me that there was about one kg of residue in the cylinder. As it is the product of the company, so I reported about it to the higher authorities of India Oil. Following which, they asked me to send exact amount of residue. Next day, I again sent one of my employees with electroic digital weighing machine at his residence to weigh as to how much residue/water was there in the cylinder. But Bhupinder Kumar did not allow my employees to weigh the cylinder and they came back. I reported the same to the company. After this, the higher authorities of IOC said that they would take care of matter on their own.”
