Hundreds of homosexuals marched on the streets of Delhi demanding decriminalisation of homosexuality.

Joining voice with their community across the globe, hundreds of homosexuals and transgenders marched on the streets of the national capital demanding decriminalisation of homosexuality.

Shouting slogans like 'Down with 377' and 'Proud to be homos,' and dancing to the tunes of drummers, the marchers demanded scrapping of the controversial Section 377 of Indian Penal Code that declares as a criminal offence ‘sex against the order of nature’.

Dressed in colourful attires, the lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders, many of them donning masks, started from the Barakhamba road and culminated their march at the Jantar Mantar.

The activists for gay rights also welcomed the "positive signals" coming from the government over their demand for the repealing of the law.

"That the government is positively thinking to repeal the outdated law is definitely a positive sign, at a time when we are also waiting for a judgement in a related case at the High Court," said Ponni, a gay rights activist working for a Bangalore-based organisation, and one of the organisers of the event.

"While the law and the home ministry have already shown positive signs, we hope the health ministry will also come on board in favour of repealing the law," she said.

We are all human beings, gay or straightBy: GNS | 30-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward God is invoked by all for all kinds of things, including human conditions, calamities, miracles, all over the world but NOT when it concerns gays.Remember some elders used to beat kids when they are left-handed till they use right hand for every thing, though unsuccessfully.Same goes for gays.It is part of nature's gifts to society. Our short experience with gays in Australia : they are the most law-abiding,maintain very high hygiene, more tolerant of all kinds of diversity and more importantly : they take better care of children.I am myself straight and Hindu but we Hindus should have the least of problems or historical baggage in accepting gays as our Hindu religion is left to the believers for practice.Till Brahmins introduced rituals for their own dominance / benefits ( gifts ) in / from society, our religion was the most democratic and free of dogma. This last obnoxious vestige of British Raj must be done away with, sooner the better.
Gay rightsBy: daljit | 30-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward another disease from the west has been copied by Indians. In the land of so many religions people are looking for unnatural acts that are not supported by any religion. Instead of copying some good values of the west we are blindly following them and becoming true copy cats.Instead of living life of virtues we tend to become unnatural. No govt and religion should support these people.

Never again the same !By: chanakya | 29-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward What ever may be the right and wrong of this procesion, one thing is clear that India has been transported to a different social order. India can never be the same. Its age old customs have been powerfully over written by several influences. Now what is left, is a society which doesn't have any inspiring leaders and drifts the way the wind blows. Suicides in cities are increasing compared to rural farming communities. India can never be the same.
