Gay sex verdict: ASG questions SC’s ‘double standards’

“What surprises me is the double standards here. When it is a question of human rights,why send it to the Parliament when the Supreme Court is itself the observer of the human rights,” she commented after the verdict. Jaisingh said that the SC’s ruling has made the situation “worse” for the community since the contention now has the stamp of the highest court of the land.

“This judgement goes contrary to the values in the Constitution of India,” she said. The ASG also regretted the “male bonding” over the issue of Justice A K Ganguly,who is in the eye of storm over sexual harassment accusations. “I am deeply disturbed by Justice Ganguly’s refusal to step down as the chairperson (of the West Bengal Human Rights Commission),” she said.
