GCA refuses to host Pak women team at Motera

The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) Wednesday refused to play host to Pakistan's women cricket team in the ICC Women's World Cup in the wake of escalating tension between the two countries on the Line of Control (LoC).

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had approached the GCA to finalise Sardar Patel Stadium at Motera as an alternate venue to host the Pakistani team, which was scheduled to play its matches in Mumbai.

"We have made it clear to the BCCI that we will not be hosting Pakistan's cricket team. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the rising tension on the border," said Rajesh Patel, secretary of the GCA, which is headed by Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

The BCCI had reportedly made a verbal request to the GCA. "Our communication on the issue was verbal and we have communicated our stand to BCCI officials," Patel told The Indian Express.
