A German tourist was shot at and robbed of cash and his passport in Lakhimpur Kheri district’s Dhaurahra area early Wednesday.
Victim George Gallos (40), who received pellet injuries in his face and chest, is undergoing treatment at Lucknow’s CSMMU Trauma Centre. His condition is stated to be stable.
Kheri ASP R K Prasad, who is officiating as the SP, said Gallos had come to Kheri four days ago and visited Chaklakhipur village in Dhaurahra on Tuesday. He moved around the village during the day and went to sleep outside a local co-operative society building in the night.
Around 3.30 am, the locals heard gunshots and rushed to the spot.
They brought an injured Gallos to the police station from where he was taken to the hospital.
Dhaurahra police station SHO Devi Dayal said that according to Gallos, he was awakened when he felt someone unfastening the bag around his waist containing Rs 1,000 and his passport. When he resisted, the man fired at him. “Gallos is in India on a tourist visa and had checked in at Hotel Saluja in Kheri city,’ Dayal added.
A K Jain, Lucknow Range IG, said teams have been formed to trace the robbers and the police are working on some clues.
