Anew Bangla film Phande Poriya Boga Kande Re directed by debutant Soumik Chattopadhyay narrates the tale of Raju (Soham),a simple city boy who is struggling to eke out an existence. When he learns of some ancestral land in Koyalgunje village that he can sell,he decides to try his luck and goes to the village. “The Trapped Boga Keeps Crying” is the rough translation of Phande Poriya Boga Kande Re,the long title of this film. “Boga” is an absurd metaphorical name for vulnerable guys who find themselves trapped in a no-exit situation. It is borrowed from a Bengali proverb or idiomatic phrase.

The film is being made under the banner of Shree Venkatesh and promises to be a romantic, entertaining musical comedy. Songs have been rendered by melody master Jeet Ganguly, who keeps flying between Mumbai, where he is based, and Kolkata where he is flooded with offers. He states that he had a wonderful time creating the musical score for the fun film. Jeet Ganguly, the number one music maker for mainstream films in Bengali cinema, said “I am very happy working with Shree Venkatesh Films as they have given me a me free hand with the music in this film. I have a very good item number too,” he added.

Soham, who began his career in Bangla cinema as a child actor when he was barely four or five years old, said that with Phande Poriya.. he has attempt comedy for the first time in his career. “I was worried about getting my timing right because I think comedy is the most challenging genre for any actor and we do not have much of it in cinema these days. But in this film,I do not have to create gags or make comic gestures. The script is designed to make the audience laugh at my plight and I can promise you that they will go into splits,” he informs.

The film brings back the hit Amanush pair Soham and Srabonti for a second time. “It is for the first time that I have performed an item number in a film,” says the pretty Srabonti who plays Mishti in the film. Baba Yadav choreographed the item number which was shot entirely in Mumbai. “He made me go through the paces of the item number so smoothly that I did not face any problem at all,” said the actress. This item number is the high point of the film and it has an electrifying climax that is completely different from their first film ( Amanush). Soham and Srabonti had acted together as child actors in Maya Bandhan.

“Mishti is the grand-daughter of Kali (Dipankar De),the zamindar of Koyalgunge village which is known to be the village mafia that kills people they don’t like or feel threatened by. When Raju’s family had some issues with them,Raju steps in,but he is trapped. Now if he steps out of our mansion,my people will bump him off. However they cannot kill inside the home because it houses the Shalgram Shila – the family deity in a temple. Hence there cannot be any bloodshed inside the mansion. So,a cat-and-mouse game ensues between Raju and the men in my family. Meanwhile as Mishti falls in love with Raju, she tries her best to keep him away from trouble. It is one of the most electrifying fun films I have worked in,” says Srabonti adding that there is a sequence in the film where Mishti is running alongside a train and as it is pulling out,Raju reaches out to pull her in. She catches his hand but he falls off while she gets in. It is quite hilarious.

Talking about the film, debutant director Soumik Chattopadhyay said that he was grateful to Shree Ventakesh Films for giving him his first break and that too, with a challenging film like Phande Poriya … which,he promises will keep the audience entertained throughout. Soumik has been an assistant director till now. He revealed that the two songs shot at the picturesque locales of Malaysia is one of the several USPs of the film. “I am fortunate to have a veteran actor like Dipankar De for my first film and he plays a role that is a wonderful blend of the comic and the scary. Srabonti and Soham have been very good but I leave it to the audience to be the judge of that,” summed up the extremely cool-headed Soumik, who, his actors endorse,“never ever loses his temper on the sets or off it and has great patience as he waits for us to deliver,” chorus his lead pair together.
