Setting an example for others to follow, the alumni of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT) have come together to mark New Year celebrations in a novel way. The alumni have opened a bank account to collect money from the college's alumni spread all the over world and then help the needy and financially weaker students of GGNIMT in paying their fee.
Tripat Dua, one of the five members of the steering committee of alumni and currently working at GGNIMT, said, "GGNIMT is the first institute of Punjab Technical University (PTU) which has produced over 40 batches of each MBA, MCA, BBA and BCA. Our alumni are spread widely and well-settled. So we decided to come up with this initiative on New Year to help financially weaker students of our college."
Dua added, "Our first alumni meet was held in 2009 and ex-students responded very well to this idea. We are also sending mails to our alumni settled abroad and providing them the bank account details so that they can also contribute."
At the 4th alumni meet of the college held on late Sunday evening, the alumni were provided with the bank details, said Dua.
Asked how the beneficiaries will be identified, Dua said, "We will be reaching out to them through teachers. A teacher is the only person who actually knows the story of every student as he/she gets attached to student both personally and professionally."
Gunwant Singh Dua, coordinator, GGNIMT, said, "It was my long-pending desire to help the needy students. Many times brilliant students are not able to continue due to financial problems. We got a request from alumni steering committee that showed interest to help such students in their training, placements and fee. Now the initiative has finally started."
Account number
The alumni of GGNIMT can contribute to bank account number 63787, Punjab and Sind Bank, Ghumar Mandi, Ludhiana.
