The Delhi Mayor has assured that the landfill site near the Ghazipur abattoir will be removed. The waste will be packaged,compressed and removed,Kanwar Sain said. The civic agency will also carry out a plantation drive in the area. We have got in-principle approval from the Planning Commission to reclaim the site and work may begin in one or two months, Sain said. The meat merchants,meanwhile,have decided to continue their strike until November 4 when the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is expected tosubmit an affidavit to the Supreme Court,outlining the facilities it is providing at Ghazipur. We ask the Delhi government to talk to us within the next two days or we will take our protest to the streets, said a spokesperson of the All India Jamiat Quresh.
