All the 27 jawans of Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) at Gidhni were today sent to their base camp at Kharagpur and another group of jawans from Kharagpur was sent there as replacement.
“The camp has not been vacated but the jawans have been replaced,” Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen told The Indian Express.
Sen said that the families of the slain jawans would get the same compensation package that is given to the families of policemen killed in similar terrorist attacks. The compensation includes Rs 15 lakh cash and salary of the policeman till his ‘retirement’. The policeman’s family is also allowed to stay in police quarters, till his ‘retirement’.
Durbadal Choudhury, owner of the cycle shop who received bullet injuries, however, will not get any compensation. “According to a Central government directive those who die in terror attack get Rs 3 lakh. But those who get injured do not get anything,” a Home Department official said.
Choudhury, meanwhile, is finding it difficult to meet the expenses of his treatment.
