Between workout sessions and shooting schedules the debutante actress seems to be leading a busy life
As Sonakshi Sinha walks in through the glass doors of Gloria Jeans, the coffee shop at Turner Road, she has everyone around giving her a second glance. We would like to believe it is the Dolce & Gabbana white-rimmed glares she is sporting, but one look at her and you know its not about the add-ons.
Strikingly beautiful, the daughter of Shatrughan and Poonam Sinha is in easygoing denims,a red-and-white striped tee and flip-flops. Over the last one year, she has lost oodles of weight and she is keeping the momentum,by placing an order for a non-dairy strawberry chiller and a grilled chicken sandwich. I have worked very hard to shed all those kilos. I used to workout twice a day and at times, literally push myself out of the house and to the gym. Now,its more about maintaining the weight, says Sinha,a newbie in Tinseltown and a regular at the coffee shop. I often hang out with my friends here.
Interestingly,Sinha was not interested in doing films during her teenage years. I was keen on fashion designing. So I did a course at SNDT, she says, adding,I worked as a volunteer for Lakme Fashion Week, post which I got inspired to lose weight and walk the ramp. Soon after that she was offered Arbaaz Khans debut production Dabangg and there was no reason for her not to accept it. It has a great script, great director and an awesome co-star in Salman Khan, says the 22-year-old,as everyone at the coffee shop cannot stop looking at her.
The pretty lass finds it bizarre that people recognise her and wave at her. She is yet to come to terms with her newfound star status, but for the moment she is gung-ho about her debut film but her naivete is apparent. I started shooting a week back in Panchgani. With Salman around, its been a party at the sets. I am enjoying every minute of it and I am already looking forward to going back, she grins.
Incidentally,it was Salman, their family friend for many years who had insisted on her shedding those extra kilos. He had told me that the day I become thin,he will work with me and I am so glad he kept his promise, she says, adding,I play a village belle in the film and so far I have been getting my dialogues and emotions right, she clarifies as she sips on her drink. Many people have been questioning her about debuting with an actor who is 40 plus. But she is quick to retort. If all the superstars are in their 40s,is it our fault?
The tag of a celebrity daughter always preceded Sinhas identity, but it was her mother who kept her and her brothers grounded. Our mother sacrificed her own career to be there for us. We were never treated like celebrity kids at home. Hence,we dont even have too many friends from the industry, she explains as she runs her fingers through her mane. Being the youngest in the Sinha family, everyone at home is full of advice for her. I get advised by my dad,mom and even my brothers. Films are a favourite topic even at the dining table. But I dont really mind it.
