Would you consider this role as your comeback to television?
I had decided that I would never do television again, but I when I heard about this role I knew I had to do it. So I guess this would be my comeback, but I have no plans to do anything after this as yet.

So what made you zero in on this show?
The most important part is that it was realistic. The show concept, the plot,my character are all so real and I know that the audience will be able to identify with it. That has always been my main criterion for selection.

You play a woman betrayed by her husband once again, isn’t that very similar to Saans?
The situation does sound similar, but here the other lady is dead. I find out about the affair with her death,so it’s all very different.

What has been your experience with local train travel?
I used the train all the time during my days of struggle. I remember that I could never make out the difference between east and west and would always come out at the wrong end. Then

I would spend so much time climbing those stairs back and forth till I found my way. I also began with saying ‘excuse me’ when I wanted to get out and ended up staying in the train long after my stop. It’s after that that I learnt to push my way out.

You’ve dabbled in film,TV and theatre, which is your preferred medium?
For an actor, theatre is the most satisfying. Unfortunately there are not enough crowds and not enough money, that’s why all actors have to move towards television to survive.

Your daughter Masaba has said she wants to act too, what do you think of that?
I’m not encouraging her to act at all. Acting is a terrible career as it is extremely disorganised and unprofessional. As an actor you are always very insecure. I know she has a lot of talents and I hope that she takes up something else instead.

So do you regret your decision to choose this profession?
While I’m happy with my work now,I do feel that if I had taken up another career I would have accomplished a lot more.

How do you deal with the public prying into your personal life?
When you’re a celebrity it’s natural that everybody wants to know what’s happening in your bedroom. At first I used to be very emotional and cry when I read what was being written about me. Over the years,I’ve learnt how to handle it and take it all as part of the profession.
