A 20-year-old college student was molested and her clothes ripped off by a gang of hooligans who also thrashed her male companion on a secluded beach in Srikakulam district on Sunday afternoon. Residents of a nearby coastal village who heard her screams for help rushed to the spot and rescued the couple.
The Srikakulam police said that a gang of five youths harassed and attacked the couple who were sitting at a secluded place at Bhoovanapadu beach, a popular tourist attraction. They appeared to be in an inebriated condition caught hold of the boy and asked him if the girl was his wife. When he asked them why they were questioning him, they thrashed him and then started molesting the girl.
The police said by the time the girl was rescued the gang had ripped off all her clothes, pinned her to the ground, snatched gold ornaments, and were in the process of recording the incident on their mobile phones.
