A four-year-old girl, who survived a fall from the 10th floor of a building in Navi Mumbai's Kharghar area last month, is scheduled to undergo an operation on her left eye at a hospital in Hyderabad on Wednesday morning. On June 11, Aparajita Yadav, fell from the 10th floor of Monarch Orchid Apartment, where she was kept in a creche by her parents.
Miraculously, Aparajita, fondly known as Pari, escaped with fractures to her leg and a few other injuries. Kharghar Police sources said they are likely to book the woman who ran the creche for negligence after a letter of complaint was submitted by Pari's mother.
According to Pari's mother Suman (32), the girl was kept in a creche when she and her husband went out on June 11. While Pari's father Anupam (35) works for a private firm, her mother is pursuing a Bachelor of Education (BEd) course. When the couple came back, they were allegedly informed that Pari had slipped off an opening in the balcony of the 10th floor and landed on plants in the first floor lawn of the building.
Pari, who bled from her left eye and was treated at MGM Hospital, was taken to Hyderabad on Monday evening by her parents. She is currently admitted to the L G Prasad Eye Hospital in Hyderabad.
"My daughter will undergo a surgery on Wednesday morning. Doctors have said that the bleeding in her left eye was because it was damaged. They will now have to perform a surgery to undo the damage," said Suman.
Suman and Anupam are both furious at the creche for what they term negligence. "Such creches should not be allowed to function. Looking after children should be a full-time responsibility and not a part-time one. We did not have any option but to keep Pari there as we are working professionals. People who run creches should be held accountable. If you cannot take responsibility of children, do not run creches," said Anupam.
