Students of the women cell of Postgraduate Government College for Girls,Sector 42,are learning to break gender discrimination and social stigmas through a theatre workshop.
The title of the workshop is hamari pehchaan,hamari bhoomika. It is being conducted under the guidance of Manjul Bhardwaj,internationally acclaimed founder of Theatre of Relevance. The students are learning to bring out their creativity by writing the script,directing and acting.
The ten-day workshop,which started on November 12,is aimed towards attitudinal change and to allow young girls to discover themselves. About 70 students from the government college participated in the workshop.
Dr Joyti Seth,coordinator of the workshop,said,Theatre of Relevance is not merely performance oriented but works towards comprehensive development of creative skills like script writing,direction,music score,acting,organising and conducting by the students themselves.
Principal Mani Bedi said that the multi-dimensional effect of this workshop on the personality and concentration of the students has been immense,They have become extremely confident and self-reliant,understanding their own identities as productive members of society. All this goes towards holistic education which is part of the mandate of our education system. We have actually witnessed a complete transformation in our students and we strongly feel that this is a wonderful method of attitudinal change.
