The two-day Bharat bandh did not affect the Class XII examination schedule of the Maharashtra state board, which began on a smooth note Thursday.

Several teachers associations and managements of private schools, who had earlier threatened to boycott the examination had softened their stand after government assurance.

"The first day of examination passed off smoothly. No untoward incident was reported. Two papers were scheduled on day 1. Marathi in morning session and Urdu in evening session and both the exams were held as per schedule" MSBSHSE secretary Krishnakumar Patil said.

More than 12.94 lakh students have registered for this year's Class XII examination, to be conducted across 2,322 centres in the state. The exams will end on March 26. From MSBSHSE Pune division, which includes Pune, Ahmednagar and Solapur districts, around 2,12,611students including 87,733 girls will be appearing for the examination. MSBSHSE Pune division secretary Pushplata Pawar said exam passed off well in all these three districts.

Meanwhile, the junior college teachers have submitted a memorandum with the state board, requesting to look into their demands at the earliest, failing which they would boycott the paper assessment work after the examination gets over.
