Allotments to be made on annual lease of Rs 6 per sq yard
For the first-time ever since its inception in August 2006, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has approved the allotment of six religious sites across Mohali. Measuring 1,000 square yards each, Sector 48 will have two sites while Sectors 66, 68, 69 and 64 will have one site each.
A decision to this effect was taken at an Executive Committee meeting of the GMADA chaired by Punjab Chief Secretary SC Aggarwal in Chandigarh recently.
Disclosing this, GMADA Chief Administrator Vivek Partap Singh told Newsline that the allotments would be made on a meagre lease amount for long term.
A lease amount of Rs 6 per square yard per annum would be charged from the allottees, who have been selected from 46 applicants interviewed for the allotments, Singh said.
In 2008, the GMADA had invited applications from the eligible registered bodies for setting up places of worship and meditation.
A committee of GMADA officials, headed by Singh, had in September 2008 interviewed the applicants and reserved its decision about those six most eligible applicants.
Singh said several aspects of the applicants were taken into consideration before making the selection.
The independent status, financial position, background of the applicant registered body besides its proposal and the extent of its benefit to the society were among the main consideration for approving the selection process.
