GNIMT took the initiative in the wake of last year’s result as the institute could only manage fifth position in MCA while the previous year, it had got gold medal.
The director of the institute Dr (Col) HS Sangha said the students would benefit a lot from laptops as most of their practical assignments required them to use computers. “And surely, we have taken the step keeping in mind that students would enhance their performance in the exams and secure top ranks in the university,” said Dr Sangha. The students who were upbeat about this gesture of the institute said they would now be better equipped to study the practical aspects of the curricullum.
“When it comes to studies in MCA, having our own computer is very imperative. With these laptops, we can now utilise our time very effectively as we can now sit in the classes and do our practical assignments during our laboratories hours,” said Simarjeet Kaur, student of MCA first year.
“All of us are really happy as this is for the first time an institute gave laptops to its students without any charges,” remarked Tejinder Singh. “It is something that is most needed for students of MCA,” said Manjot Kaur.
“But it holds even more importance for hostellers like me who would otherwise attend the labortary till the working hours and without any computers at their disposal in the hostel, would have find it difficult to finish their assignments in time,” said hosteller Subha Diwan.
GNIMT spent Rs 18 lakh to buy the laptops having configureation of 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Disk, DVD Combo-drive with Dual Core processor. Each laptop cost the institute nearly Rs 28,000.
