Go for solar cap to get respite from heat this summer

Now you will be able to get some respite from heat this summer as city-based entrepreneurs Vivek Bhatia and Chaitanya Thobre have designed a special solar cap. The cap, when worn under the sun, gives a cooling effect on your face.

The cap has got a small panel on the top, which absorbs solar energy and converts it into electricity. This solar electricity runs the fan which is fitted on the front part of the solar cap that covers the forehead. “In a layman’s language, the fan starts automatically when you go under the sun and is turned off when you are in shade,” said Bhatia.

The duo, partners in a private firm Fued Saver India, have been working on this device for the last two years. “After a lot of trial and error,we zeroed in on the present model. We wanted the cap to be very light in weight so that even kids can wear it,” said Thobre.

The entrepreneurs feel that the solar cap will be very useful for the pedestrians as well as those who travel on two-wheelers. “In months of April,May and June, when the temperature reaches beyond 35 degrees, the cap will at least give relief to one’s face.” added Bhatia.

The total cost of manufacturing the cap is Rs 230 and is being sold for Rs 400. Justifying the high cost of the cap with its durability period,Bhatia said,“It can easily last up to six to seven years.” Rajesh Narsinghrao Kundetkar, who recently bought the cap, found it so effective that he bought two more caps, one of which he sent to his friend in Nagpur. “It is extremely cooling to the eyes as well as the face,” said Kundetkar.

Although Bhatia and Thobre have not taken any significant step to popularise the cap, they have already managed to sell around 400 caps in the last two weeks,a big chunk of which has been supplied to retailers in cities like Jaipur,Mumbai and Hyderabad.

It is not the first time that these businessmen have launched such an innovative tool. In the past they have also designed a solar table fan. Around three years ago they had devised a multi-purpose instrument called No Nap – a gadget very useful during night driving and also while studying. As soon as you start getting drowsy and your head bends forward, the device starts beeping,” said Thobre.
