“The SGF has expressed willingness to merge with the Congress and the AICC has given it a go ahead. Monserrate has also desired to join the Congress, but there are some legalities involved,” AICC General Secretary B K Hari Prasad said.

The ruling front comprises the Congress with 16 members and NCP with three. If SGF and Monserrate merge with the Congress, the ruling coalition will have 22 members. The idea is to cut down the MGP and Independent MLA Vishwajit Rane to size.
