Godhra eyewitness: CISF deployed at Mullahs residence

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel have been deployed at the residence of Illyas Hussain Mullah an eyewitness to the Godhra carnage in Godhra.

This comes in the wake of an affidavit filed by Mullah in the Supreme Court in which he alleged that his life is under threat from Gujarat Police personnel,including some members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Refusing to divulge the number of security personnel deployed,a senior CISF officer said: We have deployed about two companies in Gujarat for the safety of the eyewitnesses in various riot-related cases following SC orders.

Meanwhile,Illyas is yet to return home.

His wife Rehana said: He is still in New Delhi as he fears he might be attacked again. We have got security men here since the last two days.

She added that no such security was provided to the family earlier when Illyas was supposed to depose before a designated fast-track court in the Sabarmati Central Jail.

Last week,Mullah claimed having escaped from a Shehra guesthouse where he was allegedly confined by the Panchmahals police after being reportedly abducted from the Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad on February 16 by the police and some members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Last Monday,Mullah filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court seeking security.
