The concept is of Moish Bodeliwala, a wicketkeeper-cum-opening batsman from Godhra who stopped playing the game long ago. Indore already has the country’s first such ground
Godhra will have the state’s first and the country’s second cricket ground to have grass imported from The Netherlands.
The concept of using grass seeds in cricket grounds is still not that popular among most cricket associations in the country. But the recently formed Panchmahals District Cricket Association plans to implement it soon.
The brain behind the concept is Moish Bodeliwala, a wicketkeeper-cum-opening batsman from Godhra who stopped playing the game long ago.
According to Bodeliwala, after Indore, the ground in Godhra will be the second in the country to have this grass.
While this ground belongs to Bodeliwala, the Panchmahals district administration is keen to have its own ground in the near future so that it doesn’t have to rely on a private ground.
“I had played in the C K Naidu Trophy for three years since 1978. I was an opening batsman and a wicketkeeper. I neither had any cricketing background nor enough money to travel to different places for tournaments. It was my school principal who used to help me by giving shoes and white uniform,” Bodeliwala told The Indian Express.
He further said that he realised that if his interest in cricket was genuine then he must pass his knowledge to others. And therefore, he decided to give away seven acres of land for the game.
