Goin’ the Uncle Sam Way

The real high point of the diner,which boasts of 55 covers,is the strictly single cuisine menu offering all American fare. The menu starts off with an American breakfast as well as sandwiches,salads,pizzas,hotdogs to a sizeable line-up of shakes and juices.

Finding a couch to ourselves on the ground floor,we flipped through the menu,which also packs in interesting Hollywood trivia. For instance,who knew that as his first job actor,Keanu Reeves polished ice-skates. Having heard of Oscar’s jumbo portion sizes we placed orders for their 1/2 kg American Burger along with Tijuana roast chicken,which is recommended by the chef. The service is quick and the burger,truly gigantic in size,comes with a huge serving of potato wedges and coleslaw. Tucked between the two large buns are layers of juicy chicken steak,multiple greens with lots of cheese. Polishing off the burger,which is as heavy as it sounds,is no mean feat,even for two people.

Our second order,the roast chicken,is equally jumbo-sized and comes on a big platter,served with large dollops,literally,of mashed potatoes alongside a portion of gravy,garlic bread,grilled vegetables and two huge pickled jalapenos . The chicken was well done to the bone and was a perfect accompaniment to the all American burger. If you want to pair your meal with a drink,try the all-chocolate shake or the banana honey oat shake. We wrapped up our meal with a blueberry tart and scoops of vanilla ice-cream. It was no surprise to see the size of our dessert hogging more than half of a full-size dinner plate. However,the pastry was a tad brittle and perhaps taken out too early from the diner’s oven. The bakery,which is also in-house,will dish out specials from time to time. Oscar’s will soon open an outdoor lounge area on level two that would offer live grill stations. The bar on level two is expecting its license as well. All that is missing now,is a red carpet
